Goals for the session
Children should leave able to draw a simple map with a key, use compass directions, and describe one way their local environment is being shaped by people. The workshop also builds the habit of looking carefully and recording what they see rather than what they expect.
Keep the environmental side concrete and local. A patch of litter near the bins, a shady tree that keeps a bench cool, or a puddle that forms every time it rains are all good starting points for discussion.

Students measure temperature, wind and ground conditions at sites around school, map the results and explain how buildings and surfaces create microclimates.

Urban Change Survey
High School · Ages 15–18

Students design a transect survey of environmental quality and land use, collect primary data, analyse it statistically and evaluate urban change.
